Mindfulness-integrated CBT Applied Course

Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT) is an evidence-based transdiagnostic approach, specifically designed to address a wide range of mental health conditions. To implement MiCBT efficiently, we believe it is essential that therapists acquire a sound understanding of the principles, theory and practice of MiCBT and develop the confidence to address complex clinical situations effectively.

IMPORTANT: Given that this is an applied course during which you are assisted in delivering the MiCBT programme to one or more people, you will need a client base with which to practice. You need to have at least 2 clients with whom you can implement MiCBT from Week 1—we recommend 3 clients, with a minimum of 2 clients, in case client dropout prevents you from continuing to implement MiCBT and actively participate in the course. Sometimes this takes a while to organise so we recommend that you are organised sufficiently in advance to be ready to start implementing the programme just after our first online class.

The aim of this comprehensive course is to teach you to implement MiCBT confidently with your individual clients and groups across a range of diagnoses, in most mental health settings, public and private, while being supervised and supported weekly by the trainer. The course involves didactic, practical and experiential means of learning, including:

  • Implementing the four stages of MiCBT, including mindfulness meditation, mindfulness-based exposure and relapse prevention strategies over a 12 week period
  • Master classes and group supervision (delivered online), involving role-play simulating current client attitudes and therapist responses
  • General discussions on personal experience.

Successful completion of the Foundation Course is a pre-requisite for this course.

Learning Objectives

You will learn to implement the four stages of MiCBT with clients diagnosed with most mental health disorders and some health conditions, such as addiction and chronic pain. This will include learning the clinical implementation of:

  • Cognitive and behavioural methods to engage your client in the treatment plan efficiently
  • Basic and advanced mindfulness meditation methods
  • Mindfulness-based exposure techniques
  • Mindfulness-based conflict resolution
  • Enhancing neuroplasticity to help prevent relapse
  • Compassion training through loving-kindness meditation and the use of ethics to assist in preventing relapse.

The MiCBT Applied Course consists of 10 online sessions over a 12 week period. All sessions are conducted online, using Zoom, which allows you to use interactive documents, interact with other participants and the presenter, and review the recorded sessions if needed.

The most valuable experience of this course was that all participants were able to receive practical and detailed consultation from the teacher, Dr Cayoun about our client's problems and progress. I learned a lot not only from the teacher's consultation with myself, but also from the consultation with other participants. I was also impressed that the entire course was provided with everything we needed. In addition to the books, the course website indicate what participants learn each time, handouts for clients, mindfulness meditation audio instructions, recorded videos of each class, and even a video of Dr. Cayoun's therapies which were really helpful. Participating in the applied course conducted in English was a big challenge for me , and although it took a long time to actually translate the handouts each time, it was a fulfilling course that was fully rewarded. I would like to continue to understand MiCBT more deeply and refine the skills I have learned to help clients.

What an amazing course! I found it so enriching, both personally AND professionally. I really feel as though everything I learned in the Foundation course was solidified in the Applied course, and I'm feeling much more confident in my ability to use MiCBT with my clients.

The experience of the Applied Course was rich, informative & enlightening; the feedback session by session gave me the perspective & wisdom that used to take years to achieve. It is an essential experience in my career development, and it will influence everything I do after. Connection with the doctor is different in many ways.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course! MiCBT contributed to my knowledge, skill, and well-being. My clients also report their experience of applied MiCBT is linked to many benefits, such as being more present and aware, less distracted, happier and less fearful, more patient and accepting, calmer, able to regulate emotions. I would like to express my gratitude to Bruno- master teacher, who models genuineness, positive regard, compassion and loving kindness- for developing this "cutting-edge" therapy, in which neuroscience meets Buddhism.

Thank you, I feel more confident in teaching mindfulness skills as part of a therapeutic framework within CBT theories and western culture. It provides a real solid foundation for taking personal practice into the therapeutic space.

I have found MiCBT to be a practical and effective tool for improving the lives of my clients. The course was very well presented, the concepts were explained thoroughly and in practical easy to understand language. Bruno is a wealth of knowledge and brings a lively, intelligent energy to the training. I can happily say that during every class I learnt new ways of explaining and delivering the modality. I cannot recommend this course highly enough.

Shane Smyth, MA, RP  commented on 06-Jul-2019 06:25 AM5 out of 5 stars
I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in working on a deep level with clients as it addresses not only the presenting issue but the patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that lead to these problems. Using MiCBT it is possible for clients to change these underlying patterns and have meaningful change in their lives. The course also helped me improve my self confidence, my relationships and overall well being by supporting me to engage in regular mindfulness practice during the program. I have also been able to sustain this regular practice after the program.

I found the course very useful both personally and professionally. It enhanced my ability to explain MiCBT to my clients and supported me in tailoring the 4 stages to the needs of my clients while maintaining true to the MiCBT stages. Client feedback is that it is effectively helping them with anxiety and moving beyond avoidance and cravings.
